Religion of Indians

The religious beliefs of the Indians of the past were connected with different cults. Shamanism was the most spread form of their religious views. Such cults are kept in the tribes of the modern Indians that live far in the places with complicated access. The majority of other Indians adapted Christianity. The Southern America is Catholic and there are Catholic and different forms of Protestantism in the North America.
According to beliefs all knowledge and crafts were given to people by the god Viracocha. Many Indian tribes worshiped this god as the "white god" that came from the sea and went away back to the East. And there are no legends that said that this god created people or Earth. This god brought only knowledge and gave the laws to the tribes of Indians. Such codex of laws was the analogue of the Ten Commandments. And after it the god left tribes promising to come back once.
In the ceremonies of crowning the priest always said to the king (the leader of the tribe) that the power didn't belong to him. The leader was only the governor-general and the keeper of the tribe.
There is also information that first conquerors at once went to the temple to search for gold but when they entered it they couldn't touch it but started to cross themselves as they saw the huge statue of the Saint Bartholomew known to every Spanish person since childhood.
