Mohicans

Maybe Mohicans is the most famous tribe in the North America thanks to numerous literature works which describe the way of life of the tribe. Such popularity among writers is probably connected with the facts that Mohicans adapted Christianity faster than other tribes. That is why they established the contact with settlements faster than other tribes.

And maybe such adaptation led to the gradual disappearance of tribe. This tribe lived near the river Hudson as Iroquois. This was the place where this tribe first met settlements from Europe.

The name of the tribe meant "the tribe of the Great River". And the appearance of Protestants didn't cause the indignation in the tribe and very quickly they adapted Christianity. This process was finished by the 18th century. Such quick adaptation of unknown religion may be connected with a great number of similar features between this religion and the beliefs of this tribe.

Such alliance with the Church authorities helped this tribe to conserve its territory and to save itself from the exploitation of Europeans. But such alliance was not rather good for the government as Europeans wanted to get as many territories as possible paying nothing. And church authorities had no power to fight against them.

And by the end of 18th century the tribe lost almost all its territories and was limited by the zone of reservation. And by the middle of 9th century even the language of this tribe was lost.
