Iroquois

Iroquois is one of the most warlike and authoritative Indian tribes of America before the European colonization. This tribe was divided into clans where the kinship was defined by the maternal line. This alliance of tribes occupied the territory from the river Hudson to the lake Eire.

It is known that this tribe had its proper constitution that was written with the help of shells. Thanks to their extraordinary abilities to foreign languages, they had rather developed trade relations with Indian tribes and with Europeans.

Besides, the members of this tribe were not only the clans related parentally but also tribes that accepted the tribe laws. Such politics allowed this tribe to become one of the most powerful tribes as well as the most numerous.

This tribe provided food by hunting and fishing. And dear was the most desirable bag because this animal gave everything necessary for the tribe that were the fell, the meat, as well as material for houses building and instruments, guns making.

The most vivid tradition of Iroquois was the face painting and masks making. You won't be able to find two same or at least similar masks. Those who made masks never repeated the same form, shape or painting. The only element that could be met in all decorations was the hooked nose. It symbolised the legend about the giant that swore to protect people. And Indians thought that a person that wears such mask is able to protect himself/herself and his/her home from diseases.
