Hurons

Hurons was one of the most numerous tribes. It is known that the number of people of this tribe was 40 thousand people before the invasion of Europeans. First the place of living of this tribe was the central part of Ontario. But during the long and bloody war with the tribe Iroquois the tribe of Hurons was divided into two parts. One part was more numerous while another had a few people.
The part with less people went to the North to the territory of modern Canada. And another more numerous part went to the modern state Ohio in the USA but soon was obliged to leave this territory moving to Kansas. By the way this tribe lives here till nowadays managing to keep a few their traditions and customs.
Hurons knew the agriculture very well cultivating maize, tobacco and other plants. During winter the tribe lived thanks to dear, bears and other animals hunting that could provide the tribe with furs, meat and instruments.
The tribe was divided into clans and the relationships were following the maternal line. And the oldest mother that was the oldest and respected woman chose the members of the council.
Hurons had several gods and worshiped their main god. This tribe is rather interesting thanks to their ceremony of "the feast of dead" held every 10 years. During the certain period the bodies of dead people who died for the last 10 years were dig out. And then they were carried to the general grave. Hurons believed that the souls of dead people couldn't enter the other world without such ceremony.
