Achievements of Indians

Not all achievements and inventions of Indians left their traces in the world history as they were usually local ones. These inventions were usually used only by Indians and only at the certain territory. But it doesn't mean they were bad.

By the way it is necessary to mention that the great level of material culture was gained by the low level of productive forces. When Europe was at the same stage of development there was no tribe that reached such success.

Here are some contributions of Indians to the world culture:

- The word "Hurricane" comes from the Maya language that was the name of the god of wind and storms. This word is translated as "one-legged".

- Mayas gave the most correct and exact calendar in the whole world.

- Thanks to Indians we have the possibility to taste the gum with the taste of chicle.

- The invention of hammock also belongs to the Indian culture.

- The domestication of turkeys and eating this bird during the Thanksgiving Day was also brought by Indians.

- The paper made of rubber plant was used long before the invention of the paper by Chinese people. The paper could reach several meters in length.

- Indians also invented the icons and signs writing despite the fact they didn't have any writing language.
